L.A. CLASSIC CHEVY CLUB NEWS
· Badge Lottery Recap:
During the November Badge Lottery Drawing, Club Member Dustin Mann’s name was drawn. Since he wasn’t there wearing his official Club Badge, he LOST the Badge Lottery fund of $5 and a Chevy Medallion. Sorry Dustin! Each month we increase the fund by $5. Next month it will be worth $10 and a ’55 Chevy commemorative 50th Anniversary medallion. Be sure to be there at the Club Meeting and please wear your Club Badge! (See Bruce Leeds to order a pre-paid Club Badge for $5)· Safety And Some Christmas Gift Ideas: Last month I mentioned that now might be a good time to get rid of those old style 3 legged Jack Stands you have. They are famous for collapsing. Buy yourself a Christmas Gift of a set of Sears or Pep Boys Heavy Duty 4 legged stands. If you buy them from other places like Harbor Freight make sure the teeth on the lift rail securely lock into the locking arm mechanism. Get the nicest ones you can find. Some of the cheaper Chinese made ones do not firmly lock into position and can easily be jostled out of place. If I had it to do over, I’d buy Craftsman stands. The newest ones are very nice and sometimes on sale. Another great safety item to get for Christmas is a Fire Extinguisher for your garage and/or your classic. I just checked: In my 1,100 sq ft garage I have TEN Fire Extinguishers and in my Hot Rod I have three (two small ones under the seat and one big one in the trunk). One in each of my classic Chevys. You can never have too many Fire Extinguishers! You can buy them at Pep Boys, Home Depot and other sources. Club Member Kevin McCray can sell you some very high grade units. K-Line Fire Equipment 1-310-257-1200. I have several of his extinguishers. Perfect!
· ABOUT PRESSURIZING A GAS TANK WITH AN AIR HOSE: Robert Genat wrote me an email the other day reminding me that trying to pressurize a gas tank with an air hose and a rag could be a VERY DANGEROUS act. Apparently he had a friend who did this and he was burned severely by the gas that sprayed back at him and caught on fire. Kids don’t try this at home! Safety First! While we are talking safety, now might be a good time to get rid of those old style 3 legged Jack Stands you have made out of a split tube. They are famous for collapsing. Buy yourself a Christmas Gift of a set of Sears, Pep Boys or Harbor Freight Heavy Duty 4 legged stands. Make sure the teeth on the lift rail securely lock into the locking arm mechanism. Get the nicest ones you can find. Some of the cheaper Chinese made ones do not firmly lock into position and can easily be jostled out of place. If I had it to do over, I’d buy Craftsman stands. The newest ones are very nice and sometimes on sale.
