This Nomad’s body, body number 8383 of only 8530 built, like ALL Nomads, was assembled in Cleveland, Ohio and then shipped in primer to it’s final assembly plant. Ours was assembled in Van Nuys, California in August of 1955, the last month of 1955 model production. It was sold new to the son of a Mr. & Mrs. Evans in arid San Bernadino, California. He gave it to his parents as a gift. For many years it was parked outside of their Hardware store they owned locally in downtown. After their deaths, the car was passed through the hands of several "car enthusiasts" who started a restoration but lost interest. In 1983, the dismantled but freshly painted car ended up in the able hands of George Webster, also of San Bernadino. George, a retired railroad conductor/brakeman re-assembled the car using his wide experience in the restoration hobby ( he had restored Model T Fords way back in 1955!). After working almost daily for three years, the car was 90% done. George answered an ad we placed in the NOMAD NEWS looking for an original or restored car. I must admit the first time we saw "Gypsy", as we now call her, it was love at first sight! We had wanted a lesser car (read "cheaper") but when George gave us the keys and let us take it out for a 45 minute test drive, we were sold! One week later we scraped up the money and made an offer. After about 6 hurried phone calls between my wife and George and I, we finally agreed to a price.
